So some of you guys here know me personally and some just through other people but today I was given some devastating news. A really close friend of mine whom I've known since she was 12 years old and know her family as well had a very tragic accident on August 17. She fell of the Catamaran she was on in Croatia while she was vacationing and smacked her head. Now she has been in a coma for 4 days so far and I just got off the phone with her brother and he is saying she literally has 15 days to be treated there before they can transport her to Toronto General. The family isn't wealthy and she didn't have insurance. I'm going to put together a charity event to raise as much money we can as possible to transport her back. So far we have raised $10,000.00 just through local friends. We need around a total of $75,000.00 as a new transport company has given us a better price. If anyone has any ideas on how we can do this I'd love the help. I was thinking we do two days of selling drives in our cars for $100-$200 each?? That should raise a decent amount if everyone brings their rides out. Guys we do rides all the time....let's try to save this girls life. I've known her for over a decade, she's a totally sweet girl. Any input, help, advice would be appreciated!!

The issue is none of her friends have a network of friends like we do. We are all wealthy individuals that can offer aid in whichever way possibly. Right now they are saying in Croatia they won't release her passport till she covers the bill there as well but we have contacted foreign affairs in Ottawa and they are looking over this....the cheapest air ambulance flying at sea level so far has been $75,000.00, includes the nurses, doctors and 1 surgeoun. I want to raise the $75,000.00 to get her here and so far we raised 10k. I know we can put something together to raise this......

Sorry to hear about your friend.
If she is covered by OHIP the emergency surgery should be covered. As well as part of her stay.

OHIP isn't covering the flight back here, they need to airlift her basically with an ambulance in the sky with full paramedics. OHIP has refused thus far to cover anything in Croatia as well because she didn't purchase travel insurance. We are waiting to hear back from Ottawa. At the worst we have to raise the money for the air ambulance that will leave Toronto to Croatia and bring her back and cheapest so fari s 75k.

In a nutshell, private aircraft owners will donate their craft and crew for dire medical needs. I know of GV and Global Express owners that participate and donate intercontinental transport.

Why do you need to make crap comments when someones well-being us at stake-grow up!! If your friends or loved ones were in the same position - just think of that.

Let's just ignore the ignorant guys! A really good friend of mine who is a well known model who also knows Anna contacted me and wants to know if we would be interested in a bikini car wash with a solid handful of models washing our cars? Can totally be a cool experience and everything raised will be donated towards her cause...this is an idea other than using our rides to sell rides. Foreign affairs and the office of the mayor are fully aware of this situation and it's now starting to circulate heavily. I think this would be a GREAT opportunity for FCHAT members to show their support!! Would you guys be interested in a bikini car wash?? I can probably get 10 beautiful models there. Let me know.

Interesting idea! Perhaps Anna's model agency can help out with this? Another fundraising idea could be a wall calendar with the cars and girls. I'd put up my car for this and buy a few calendars. You just need to find a photographer and print shop to donate services and you're good to go.
Come to think of it, you could do calendars with cars only, girls only, and cars+girls to cover all bases. Do the shoot at an Fcar repair shop that would kick some money in and they get to put their banner in the pics.

Are you mentally crazy? I'm not asking anyone to send me money, in fact 100's of people in Toronto are talking about this, how do you know how much I have donated so far? How do you know who is paying for the current medical bills in Croatia which exceeded $40,000.00 yesterday.. 3 lounges and restaurants in Toronto have already started Charity raffles for her, you think I'm the only one trying to help? 100's of people are. The next time you want to be "Mr. Cool" go pick on Bill Gates and his wife...they too have a foundation, in fact so does Buffet...why are they doing charities instead of easily throwing that pocket change out themselves? It allows the people or person in need to know millions care and are thinking of them....all you're doing is making yourself look terrible and heartless and it's best you leave the thread, believe me, you don't want me passing this information on to the 1000's of supporters she has right now locally.

You haven't been here long enough to know this, but Dr S also has a foundation.

Surely you can understand how people here would be gun shy. You're the guy who came on here telling all of us how much money you make, how high your returns are, throwing around huge amounts of money, and then you post this, essentially asking people to donate to a cause that only needs $75K (which is not a lot of money to many of the people on this board).

The point has been made: with all your profits, $75K should be a drop in the bucket for you, and if this is a cause you truly feel is worthy, then be a hero and pay it all yourself.
