I keep stats on this blog page and noticed there are visits on Sunday (20th) and Tuesday and Wednesday.
The visitors from Whitby, Brampton and Kitchener they got referred from site 97.74.206.15 pages /ITC_Posting/Wind/Coder.aspx and /ITC_Posting/Fido_no_api/Coder.aspx
Browsers used were Firefox on Windows 7 and Macintosh 10.5 with Chrome.
Judging from the uri it seems it's a fido related app of some sort, the IP address is registered to godaddy hosting which makes it very vague and not directly connecting to fido but maybe they keep tabs on their keywords on the web?
If it's someone visited indeed from fido, please contact me if you have any responses, it would be very interesting to hear from you!
Thank you

Hello Wind Android!
Well I got it!
Feels great to finally have my wish fulfilled, without having to pay too much up front... see, that was not hard.
It's not hard to make me happy, it's 2011 and I got my first mobile internet. Android is great because of the customization it has, I will probably be upgrading the OS. Practically this phone is already mine, I will be paying an extra 10% of the bill for it, or could pay it off right away. Now just because I could pay it off, doesn't mean I should. I don't have to do that because there's no price increase for doing it the slow way. Some things are just better done slowly. I waited for a duel core processor, incredible camera and amazing screen. I didn't jump ship or jump the gun to get a phone while it was not fully developed, mature and powerful. I think the hardware here will last a sure 3 years no problem.Even if I don't want wind, I can go anywhere without getting a new phone. Even though there's no need but at least I own the phone and can do what I like with it.
So here you go fido, lesson learned I hope?
Even bigger lesson for Rogers, we left both our cell phone services, internet service and TV service. Almost simultaneously now with leaving fido and they can't do a thing about it. They are no longer the giants they thought they are, and they simply can't adapt. The strangle hold they had was frightening because there simply was not much choice. Bell being as bad as Rogers in many respects. Now that reign of terror is over, for the most part... they do still control the lines going into our home and probably still have a majority in most cities for some services. No longer do we need to worry about the slow adaptations, bad service and disrespect they have proven to be egotistic and rude, in the way they treat the customer (even if your Customer Service Reps are polite, that doesn't mean your actions are.)
Goodbye Rogers (and Fido which is still owned by Rogers), and hello the competition and same people that are honest and not evil.
Google's motto is "Don't be evil" and really that's all I need to know. If your company will not be evil like Rogers, Apple, and many more, you have my vote - in this case: money.
As always, leave comments below or email (after the break).
Do you think Rogers is evil? good or bad experience I'd like to hear it!
Ever use Wind? if so what are your thoughts?

GOODBYE FIDO
As I discussed in article Rogers: Bad Business Influence on FIDO, it is now confirmed. Fido just can't match what wind mobile has, I even talked to cancellation department for about 15 minutes and they simply were OK with me leaving!
Now I ask the reader (whom ever you are): Have you ever heard of a company, business or any type of organization that are OK with you leaving them (aka not giving them more money)???
I am aware that money is not everything, but maybe that's the point here: they should at least do right by the customer and try to keep them, don't you think?
I even told the lady, I did like the fido service thus far, I simply want to upgrade but they are not making it financial feasible nor sound (or even something that would make sense) for me to make this upgrade. I was willing to pay a certain amount, within reason (say $100 for argument sake - coincidently also the same as cancelling with fido!)
I am offered a free android phone (windtab - which I will report back on the exact details as I find out) that I am interested in, No contract (I believe there's a year commitment but at this price I will sign for 3 years!) and best of all the unlimited EVERYTHING plan is $29!!! (this includes at least 5GB of data!!!)
All the while fido which claims to be a discount brand can offer me $25 for a measly 500MB, not to mention the other $25 for a limited amount of talk (what's 150 minutes these days?? for a month it's really nothing so again measly) and unlmtd text (who doesn't have this already?). So comon fido, tell the big sister to step it up and allow you to do more, or whatever the reason is...
The ECF (Early Cancellation Fee) is totally worth it, $100 to get an android phone, plus unlimited everything for the same monthly price I'm paying for ONLY 150 minutes and unltmd text, I'm practically investin 100 to get more services for the same price, or if I wanted those service I would pay another 100 so really, saving 100!!!
See my logic?
I will attach the voice call which I recorded (for quality NOT training purposes! as they claim, well if you record, so do I!), for now here are some quotes:
She admitted:
"We have a lot of customer's leaving us to go to wind mobile"
"[A lot* of wind mobile customers are coming back to fido from wind, no because of the data, but the coverage]" - had to fully paraphrase this one, but I don't see coverage issues, now they are expending and get all GTA I would ever need
"It's the best I can offer you"
This is not the first time I see this mistake made in business, and being somewhat close to business leaders I can tell you that it's a huge mistake. They would only have to drop their 50 to 30 and cover the $75 the phone cost and I would stay on board, but they can't, I don't know why but I speculate it's because of: ego, sister Rogers, greed, plain being bad business people which makes them idiots in this world of business.
It's no wonder they stay in business because their great voice and text services but I predict they will be hit hard as people want data plans and smartphones, their lack of caring for customers will be a huge problem. If they don't end up fixing it, Canada will lose a local business while foreign Wind mobile will take over. And they are taking over.
*She threw a stat of 97%, but knowing that 87% of stats are made up on the spot I kind of don't see this being accurate....
As always, let me know your thoughts in the comments or by email.

Fido - Rogers is influencing the evil in you
Well, it's that time of year again. The holidays are approaching and conveniently enough my birthday also, which means I want to upgrade a phone... well actually it's because I don't have data or a "smartphone" and I feel it's time.
I did compare the pros and cons of data plan vs voice plans only and now the pros outweigh the cons for me and I feel I can shell out a little more a month PLUS if the upgrade of phone will cost a little I can spend it.
So if you follow the blog you know that I am currently with fido for two years - September 2010 to September 2012. Looking at fido's phones selection for the "smart" type (not iPhone's - I simply don't like them) the clear choice is a good hardware android phone. My experience in Linux should be sufficient to upgrade and "root" or unlock the phone is very appealing to me.
But wait, there's a problem with fido service terms!
The only time I can upgrade my phone (in other words, sign another contract for reduced price on the phone) is 6 months before my contract is up!
Well I have to tell you, this is simply unacceptable, this means that if I signed a 2 year contract I have to wait a year and a half to SIGN another contract???
You see there's not much logic in that because I simply don't want to wait, and in fact plan to leave fido for good.
Now you probably think, this is not reason enough to leave fido, just cause you have to wait a little longer?
But wait there's more!
Okay so it's bad enough I can't upgrade, the only available plans for the "SMART" type of phones are an extra additional $25 which provides a mere 500MB per month!
This is on TOP of current voice plans, mine is the cheapest possible without getting really low on day minutes - 25/month which gives 150 minutes (by the second) and unlimited AFTER 5pm and weekends.
This is ridicules, and if you think they are the standard, check other sites like windmobile.ca - $29 for UNLIMITED - of course there's a soft limit of 5GB but this is much better when you consider the fact that ALL your voice calls and text messages are also UNLIMITED!!!
Yes you heard it right, no matter the time of day, you are FREE to use your voice data, no more tracking how many minutes you use!
Fantastic deal, is there a catch?
Not a very major one, their coverage is somewhat more limited, but still it remains a decent area which I (or anyone in this area) would travel only this far without getting gauged by the big dogs in this game (Rogers, Bell, etc).
Finally, the catch for me is that I would have to pay the Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) but I think it's acceptable, since I would get twice the service for only about 5 more dollars AND a free (included as long as you are with wind) SMARTPHONE... and did I mention there is no contract!!!!
Incredible job wind, I can't wait to start with you as soon as I can get cancelled with fido and transfer my phone number to you.
Some side notes and details: the phone I look at is the LG optimus 2X, fastest hardware (first duel core processor), it's $75 for 3 YEAR contract from fido!! really fido, you went downhill when it comes to SMARTPHONES.
I mean if I still wanted my regular phone I would stay with you, unless of course you can offer to me the same as wind, I will stay with you all day.
The Wind mobile deal: same phone, FREE, NO CONTRACT, cheaper monthly plan.
Can you match this FIDO????

Rogers unreliable bandwidth checker
It's pretty clear that Rogers is evil (as mentioned in last post) but they also suck, a lot.
Here's another reason to hate them that proves they are completely evil (if you are not convinced already).
As you know by now they have monthly bandwidth caps, but if you are a user of their service (this is our last month... FINALLY!) you need to verify your bandwidth is not over the arbitrary limit they impose. So how to do this? on their website of course! you can login to the account you created and once linked with your internet service account you should be able to see your bandwidth.
There's quite a few problems with this service:
1. is the bandwidth only includes up to yesterday! no real time monitoring, which means you must invest your own time and money to monitor real time bandwidth usage (I recommend Gargoyle Router - router firmware which can replace your default one if you have a modifiable router, otherwise they can be bought for 50-100 dollars and the firmware is free!)
2. it's unclear whether Rogers includes bandwidth you spent for just checking your own bandwidth on their website!
3. the service is not available most of the time, for example because we cancelled our service we can't view the amount of bandwidth we used last month, nor this month! outrageous! we still have the service NOW!!!
example: The account 23xxxxxx01 you are checking is not an internet account. In order to view your Internet services, you must add Hi-Speed service to your Rogers account. Please click here to order Rogers Hi-Speed service.
As always, Comment your opinion or anything at all!
Did you ever see a similar screen while checking your bandwidth usage?
Since Rogers' service is so unreliable, which platform (if at all) do you use on your own end (router or computer) to monitor your bandwidth?
Let me know what you think

Why is Rogers [cable internet phone mobile] Evil?
This post will not answer, but rather ask you the reader [and if Rogers Communications Inc.'s evil empire is reading] - why do you think [or know] the reasons that Rogers is so evil?
It's pretty clear that they are, really there is not much dispute on this topic. They simply do evil things. Where other companies [i.e. Google] - say that their goal is "Don't be evil" or something like "Do good". Rogers does infact the complete opposite and seem very proud about it.
But I am finally very happy because we have just loosened the grip the evil forces of Roger's claws had on us. We cancelled both our services - Cable TV and Cable Internet [High Speed] today - which now finally completely breaks any ties of us to Rogers (previously I mentioned how I left their wireless phone service without a single word from them at all). We don't watch TV so there's no need to pay 30/month for something we don't use, and the internet cap is WAY too low at 60GB/Month it's not nearly enough. Now they were actually going to give us a great deal before they *remembered they are evil again*!
In case you are curious the deal was going to be 250GB/Month for the same price ~$41/Month which includes the more expensive modem rental of 7/month and of course being evil is not easy so the modem could be bought from them for 199 which turns out it's better to pay the 7/month for 2 years (but if you expect to have internet for longer you should just buy it!) it's also funny that even though we had our current modem for over 5 years, paying 4/month (4x12=48 and 48*5=576) and believe you me that there's really NO WAY that a modem would ever cost over 100 dollars! so even though we already paid this rent on the modem we could not own it unless we pay another 99 dollars on top of what we paid over the years. I guess paying for private jets and golden truffles is expensive these days...
With this, I leave an Evil Empire directly and go to a competitor that will still have to pay them indirectly - since their monopoly is controlling all the wires going into our home as with ANY Canadian home.
Really hope Occupying the world will change our country and our world. As we know, first we have to re-structure Government forces to work for PEOPLE people not CORPORATIONS which are most of the time very evil in their actions toward everything and anything in their path/goal of making money.
It's time we step up to the plate and say we had enough of monopolistic, materialistic, greed and carelessness for our environment and human life.
It's time we all leave the greedy corporations alone to die the same way they leave us in the cold without a worry in their mind - because they don't have a soul.
Goodbye Rogers and hello something else.
